Convoy of Hope

Convoy of Hope

This month (August 2017), the staff and volunteers of His Helping Hands (HHH) will be helping with the Convoy of Hope (COH) event in Wichita. This is the fifth year for this event, and we like to refer to it as “HHH on steroids”!

During the event, COH distributes free school supplies, backpacks, new shoes and groceries to those in attendance who are in need. Services are also provided, such as haircuts, breast cancer awareness information and screenings, hearing tests, vision tests, school physicals, dental screenings and immunizations. It is a day designed for not only gifts and services, but also the love of Christ to be shared.

This year, on Saturday, August 5th, starting at 10 am, COH is prepared to serve 14,000 people at two locations: in south Wichita at Bethel Life Center, 3777 S. Meridian, and in north Wichita at McAdams Park, 1329 E. 13th St. N.

The Connections/Prayer Tent

Once people have received their supplies and services, their final stop will be at the Connections/Prayer (C/P)Tent. The HHH team will be serving in the C/P Tent at the north location. There, volunteer prayer warriors will offer love, comfort and prayer. The Gospel message will be shared with those who have never heard it or responded to it before. During past COH events, hundreds of people have made a first time profession of faith in Jesus as their Lord and Savior!

Besides praying for special needs of individuals who come to the C/P Tent, volunteers will endeavor to connect them to helpful resources in our community. Often these connections are life-changing. For example, last year a young single mom came to the COH event to receive some school supplies and groceries for her  familyfamily. During her time in the C/P Tent, she was encouraged to apply for the Fresh Hope program at HHH. She did just that, was accepted and has since graduated from the program with a whole new outlook on her life. A few Saturdays ago, this single mom was at HHH to receive some household goods for her home, and was able to share with another single mom how Fresh Hope and Jesus had changed her life. One connection can lead to many more connections!

This event is not about one church or one organization or one group of people, but it is all about the Church of Jesus Christ; His people working together to help others in His name!!
